FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who are you?
Just a random guy who has lived in Michigan for over thirty years. I enjoy writing and can type relatively fast, which is a dangerous combination. You definitely don't know of me and never will, but I enjoy running a website and pretending people are reading my content.
What is your objective with this website?
I don't know. I guess ideally some people would read my content and be inspired to take action and change the way things are going in Michigan. At bare minimum I hope I can influence some people who wouldn't normally vote to vote and some people who may have previously voted for candidates who suppress local autonomy to vote for candidates who support local autonomy in 2024.
What's so wrong with Michigan?
Not a lot. I love Michigan. I grew up in Michigan and my fondest memories are here. I believe it is a wonderful place to live and hang out in. At the same time, if I had to define what upsets me most about the current situation, I'd probably cop out and make the most cliché political argument of all time: I think the state government is meddling in local affairs far more than it ever should be allowed to under the guise of a purposely and horribly misrepresented "pandemic." I don't think the Michigan Health Department or Governor should unilaterally dictate how local communities operate under just about any circumstance, but especially under the current circumstances, which I consider to be relatively normal compared to how they are represented in the media.
So you are a Covid-19 denier then?
Absolutely not. And on the other hand, absolutely. It just depends what you mean. I believe Covid-19 is a real sickness that for most people is incredibly mild, but in extremely rare circumstances can be life threateningly serious to a very small percentage of already health compromised people. I do not deny that. I do deny that it is an issue anywhere near serious enough to warrant the unilateral government lockdowns which have altered education, business, and a generational way of life for the last two years.
So you think it's a government conspiracy then?
Not in a diabolical, wearing tin foil hats and worrying about 5G broadband sense, no. I believe that the Democrats seized control of the Covid narrative prior to the 2020 election in order to run Donald Trump out of office. Make no mistake, I believe the Republicans would have done the exact same thing given the chance in a reversed scenario, even if I do agree with their current platform more than I do that of the Democrats. Unfortunately, I believe the narrative the Democrats ran with spiraled out of control into "fear porn", which led to the uncertainty which allowed power hungry lawmakers to start implementing all the stuff I hate that is going on in Michigan.
What are your thoughts about the Covid-19 Vaccine?
I think it is a benign, not incredibly effective vaccine that can potentially provide protection to older and health compromised people. I compare it very closely to the flu vaccine in the sense that there is a chance it will protect you, but there is also a chance that even if you have it, it will not help. It may or may not limit symptoms in specific cases, but for most people Covid symptoms are mild anyways, so I don't understand why that argument is given such weight, as very few people experience dangerous Covid symptoms regardless of their vaccination status.
What about vaccine mandates?
Absolutely oppose them. I am totally blown away when people act like things are so bad that we should be firing people if they don't get a vaccine which has been demonstrated again and again to not stop the contraction or transmission of the disease. If Covid were as serious as Smallpox or its vaccine was as effective at eliminating the disease as the Smallpox vaccine was, I might have a different opinion. But forcing people to choose between losing their livelihood or getting a vaccine that doesn't stop the contraction or transmission of the disease it is designed to combat, is madness. More importantly, while I don't believe this particular vaccine is dangerous, I do believe setting a vaccine mandate now is a disastrously slippery slope for future vaccines, if a corrupt leader or government ever did decide to turn on its people.
What about masks?
Absolutely fine with people wearing them, absolutely opposed to any mandates which require the wearing of them. The fact that the MDHSS actually mandated that two-year-olds have to wear masks at daycare is my best argument that the universe has lost its balance. I repeat this argument over and over because guess what? It's the only argument I need. Here's a simple thought: In America, Health Departments don't get to tell parents they have to mask up their two-year-olds. Get bent if you think they do.
But do you think masks work?
This one is tough for me. I think in a vacuum masks could potentially help, but I think in reality there are a thousand variables which make them and the mandates requiring them ineffective. I certainly don't believe they are effective enough to force two-year-olds to wear them at daycare. What's that? I already used that argument? Again, it's the only argument I need.
What about Covid-19's effect on education?
This may be my biggest complaint of all. I think the handling of Covid-19 by our current leaders has done more damage to the education and development of children than will ever be realized. Schools never should have shut down, overly strenuous quarantining procedures never should have been implemented, and virtual learning doesn't work. The fact that certain people in education used the pandemic to further their political notions at the expense of our children is disgraceful, and it is one of the main reasons I feel Michigan made a disastrous choice in reelecting Gretchen Whitmer.
Are you just some Gretchen Whitmer hater?
It sure seems that way, but I would honestly argue that in many ways I am not. I don't buy the whole "this politician is just a maniacal despot bent on limitless power" argument in most cases, and I definitely don't buy it in regards to Gretchen Whitmer. I think Governor Whitmer willingly and for a specific agenda bought into the hype of Covid and then willingly and for a specific agenda bought into her own hype to such a degree that she truly convinced herself she was making the right choices concerning Covid. Make no mistake, she was definitely not making the right choices, but I think she ultimately convinced herself she was. If I were in a room with Gretchen Whitmer I would speak politely to her, and probably tell her I felt bad for her because she was under a lens of scrutiny which I have never and will never experience. If she asked, I'd also tell her I disagree with almost everything she did concerning Covid-19 and think she has made Michigan a worse place. But only if she asked.
